Remotely Familiar: Using Computerized Monitoring to Study Remote Use
نویسنده
چکیده
COMPUTERIZED MONITORING HAS BEEN USED for decades to study the behavior of remote users of online library resources. The older method of using transaction log analysis to study how remote users interact with online catalogs and abstracting and indexing services recently has been complemented by the use of Web server log analysis to study how remote users navigate into and through library-created and library-supported Web sites. The technique is particularly well suited to the task because the behavioral data can be gathered unobtrusively without interrupting the user’s search for information because, compared to in-library use, it is relatively easy to identify discrete search sessions, and remote users are much more reliant on computerized library systems than are in-library users. For remote library users, content, context, and assistance all are delivered through the same channel and interface. The diffusion of remote access techniques and behavior among the information-seeking population raises some fundamental questions about the nature of access. The two goals of this article are to review what computerized monitoring has revealed about remote use and to examine some of the larger issues raised by remote

Spatiotemporal analysis of remotely sensed Landsat time series data for monitoring 32 years of urbanization
The world is witnessing a dramatic shift of settlement pattern from rural to urban population, particularly in developing countries. The rapid Addis Ababa urbanization reflects this global phenomenon and the subsequent socio-economic and environmental impacts, are causing massive public uproar and political instability. The objective of this study was to use remotely sensed Landsat data to iden...
متن کاملAutomated Method for Monitoring Water Quality Using Landsat Imagery
Regular monitoring of water quality is increasingly necessary to keep pace with rapid environmental change and protect human health and well-being. Remote sensing has been suggested as a potential solution for monitoring certain water quality parameters without the need for in situ sampling, but universal methods and tools are lacking. While many studies have developed predictive relationships ...
متن کاملRemote Monitoring And Diagnosis of a Mechatronic System
The real time evolution of a system is analyzed and the differences between the mathematical models describing the system are providing a feedback indicating a possible fault in the monitored process. All the monitoring activity was done remotely via word wide web using Data Socket Server technology for transmitting and receiving data through the network. The measurement and control are accompl...
متن کاملCoastal water quality assessment based on the remotely sensed water quality index using time series of satellite images
This study was conducted with the aim of providing a remotely sensed water quality index in Assaluyeh port using remote sensing technology. so, according to the region conditions, studying of scientific resources and access to satellite data, the parameters of heavymetals, dissolved ions, SST, chlorophyll-a and pH were selected. Then, by reviewing sources, the product MYD091km, MYD021km, MOD02...
متن کاملRemote Sensing Analysis of Land Cover Change
In Australia, remotely sensed Landsat data is routinely used for mapping and monitoring changes in the extent of woody perennial vegetation. Time series remotely sensed satellite imagery and ground information is used to form multi-temporal classifications of presence/absence of woody cover. Two broad-scale operational land cover change and monitoring projects are based on a series of algorithm...
